Online education

A benefit of taking online courses is the flexibility they offer the dental assisting student — a great option for those who already have time commitments with family and work. Online classes mold to your schedule and let you log in at a time that works best for you, as opposed to attending a lecture at a specific time.

Classroom education

Generally the best option for students with a little more freedom in their schedules. The hands-on training has some scheduling flexibility, and some classes can be taken over a couple of weeks. Don't overlook travel time to campus — a long commute can make schedules difficult, especially if you plan on working while in school.

Dental externship

At the completion of the twelve-week portion of the training — online or classroom — all dental assisting students must successfully complete a 40-hour externship in a local dental office.
